AI-backed robot painting aims to boost artist income

Montreal-based artist Audrey-Eve Goulet was initially uncertain as she watched an AI-powered robotic arm reproduce one of her works, but said the outcome was “really impressive.” Goulet had agreed to work with Acrylic Robotics, a Montreal-based company that says it aims to help artists earn a living by making high-quality replicas of their work, with their consent.

Taylor Swift is teaming up with AMC Theaters to host release parties across the United States for her latest album. The release party events will take place from October 3 to October 5 across thousands of screens in the United States and across the world. The official release party will play at all 540 AMC Theatres across the United States and additional circuits like Cinemark and Regal, as well as Cineplex in Canada, Cinepolis and Cinemex in Mexico, and various international partners.

Why The Economist isn’t doing AI deals but has launched on Substack

Many publishers have done deals around the use of their content with ChatGPT owner OpenAI. However The Economist has not signed with OpenAI or any of its competitors. Bradley-Jones explained: “I think we see those products as publishing platforms. That’s fundamentally what they’re trying to create. And why would you license your content in any meaningful volume to a competitor platform?”

Google is a ‘bad actor’ says People CEO, accusing the company of stealing content

Neil Vogel, CEO of People, Inc. (formerly Dotdash Meredith), a publisher that operates over 40 brands, including People, Food & Wine, Travel + Leisure, Better Homes & Gardens, Real Simple, Southern Living, Allrecipes, and others, said that Google is not playing fair because it uses the same bot to crawl websites to index them for the Google search engine as it does to support its AI features.

Nearly a third of all tracks uploaded to Deezer are now fully AI-generated, says platform

Fully AI-generated music now constitutes 28% of all tracks delivered to Deezer each day, according to new data from the French streaming service. Deezer says it now receives over 30,000fully AI-generated tracks daily, marking a sharp increase from the 20,000 figure it reported in April and the 10,000 it disclosed in January when it first launched its proprietary AI detection tool.

STIM Explores AI Music Licensing Framework With Songfox Deal: ‘This Is a Blueprint’

STIM, the Swedish collective management organization, announced today (Sept. 9) that it has signed what is thought to be the first collective management license for AI music. The deal, signed with the AI music company Songfox with support from the attribution technology company Sureel, will start small, using both compositions and recordings from a publisher that owns compositions as well as recording rights. But STIM’s ambitions are bigger.

European Commission EVP Henna Virkkunen Talks Trump, Streamers, and AI

Henna Virkkunen, EVP of the European Commission responsible for tech sovereignty, security and democracy, is upbeat about the E.U.’s ties with the U.S. when it comes to the media and entertainment sectors. Virkkunen underlined the need “to make sure that we have a level playing field,” noting that the EU’s creative sector “is facing many challenges” with the onset of “digitalization and very big online platforms.”

Google admits the open web is in ‘rapid decline’

For months, Google has maintained that the web is “thriving,” AI isn’t tanking traffic, and its search engine is sending people to a wider variety of websites than ever. But in a court filing from last week, Google admitted that “the open web is already in rapid decline.”  Google submitted the filing ahead of another trial that will determine how it will address its monopoly in the advertising technology business.
