Warner Bros. Strikes First Deal to Return Films to Theaters in 2022 with New 45-Day Window

Warner Bros. and Regal Cinemas owner Cineworld have struck a deal to return Warner Bros. releases to theaters only in 2022 thanks to a new 45-day window plan. Under the current 2021 strategy, Warner Bros. opens movies in theaters on the same day they begin streaming exclusively on HBO Max for 31 days.

From June through Friday, some 29,800 NFTs involving musicians have generated $42.5 million in primary sales, with an average per-unit transaction value of $1,427, according to a database compiled by music-technology researcher Cherie Hu. So far, most buyers are crypto-savvy speculators helping send prices soaring. The music business is hoping the market will develop for real fan participation—at fan-accessible valuations.

IFPI Global Report 2021: Music Revenues Rise For Sixth Straight Year to $21.6 Billion

Global music sales grew for the sixth consecutive year in 2020, despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s (IFPI) “Global Music Report 2021.” Total revenues climbed to $21.6 billion, a rise of 7.4% on the previous year. Driving the growth was a 19.9% rise in streaming subscription revenues, which totaled $9.9 billion last year.

Linda Ronstadt Sells Entire Catalog to Irving Azoff’s Iconic Music Group

Iconic Music Group (IMG) formally announced the high-profile catalog acquisition this morning. Neither party specified the financial terms of the deal, but the transaction encompasses all the masters that the Tucson, Arizona, native Linda Ronstadt owns from across her approximately four decades in music, as well as her share of royalties from masters that she does not possess.

Biden to nominate antitrust scholar Lina Khan as FTC commissioner

Khan, a 32-year-old associate professor at Columbia Law School, would be the youngest FTC commissioner if confirmed by the Senate. She is best known for a paper written while a law student at Yale titled “Amazon’s Antitrust Paradox,” which laid out how the e-commerce giant could be violating antitrust law.
