Study Estimates a 47% Drop In New Artists Touring Europe

Liveurope, a live music promotional initiative funded in part by the European Union’s Creative Europe program, unveiled the telling projection in a detail-oriented analysis. According to this report, the average number of Liveurope-supported concerts featuring new artists dipped from 36 last season to 18 in 2020, factoring for each of the entity’s 15 member venues.

The independent artist market is exploding in China – with NetEase and Tencent battling to woo the best indie acts

China is becoming a particularly interesting hotspot for the DIY artist market – with the territory’s two biggest streaming platform operators, Tencent Music Entertainment (TME) and NetEase Cloud Music, duking it out for supremacy. Back in July, Tencent Music revealed that it had paid 590 million yuan (over $84m) to date to indie artists using its ‘Tencent Musician’ program.

Study Shows Streaming is Up 57% Year Over Year 

Viewers are spending more time overall streaming content, and advertisers are flocking to make the switch from pay-TV. In Q3 of this year, viewing time is up 57% year over year according to Conviva’s quarterly State of Streaming report. In addition, ad demand for Q3 is up significantly from the dramatic drop Q2 suffered due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

IFPI and WIN’s new data exchange service RDx now ‘fully operational’

IFPI and WIN, working together on behalf of the global recording industry, have announced that their global repertoire data exchange service (RDx), built and run for Repertoire Data Exchange Limited by PPL, is now “fully operational”. RDx provides a supply chain for performance rights data among record companies and music licensing companies (MLCs) to help improve the accuracy of revenue distribution to rights holders when their music is used.
