Spotify Touts Benefits of its Discovery Mode as House Judiciary Probe Continues

The streaming service is going on the offensive amid a Congressional probe of its new Discovery Mode feature, and it has help from some indie distribution CEOs. In a post on its Spotify for Artists blog, the Swedish streaming service highlighted Argentinian singer Natalie Perez — who is signed to French label Believe — pointing out how a collection of artist-friendly tools, most notably Discovery Mode, helped to push her sophomore album Detox to new heights.

A Tribe Called Quest to Auction Off Portion of Royalty Streams as NFT

Following on its announcement earlier this month that it would allow rightsholders to sell off their royalty streams as non-fungible tokens (NFTs), online music royalties marketplace Royalty Exchange has partnered with A Tribe Called Quest to auction off a 1.5% share of the sound recording royalties from the hip-hop group’s first five studio albums.

Canada’s SOCAN Appoints Jennifer Brown to CEO

Canadian rights management organization SOCAN announced Tuesday (June 29) that Jennifer Brown has been appointed CEO, effective immediately. Brown was directly selected for the position by SOCAN’s board of directors in a move that makes her the first woman to lead “Canada’s largest music and visual arts rights organization,” according to the press release.

Danish media firms join forces to seek payment deal with Facebook, Google

Representatives of 29 Danish media companies, including state broadcaster DR, partly state-funded TV2, as well as most major newspaper publishers, will gather on Friday for their first meeting. “We believe that a collective management of our rights will make for the best and most fair value regarding big tech’s use of our content,” Stig Orskov, chief executive of media company JP/Politikens Hus, told Reuters.
