Spotify Hits 299 Million Active Users in Q2

Spotify’s user and subscriber growth came in at the top end of expectations for the second quarter of 2020, but the company’s bottom line was hit by a 48% increase in operating costs from stock-related compensation charges. In addition, ad revenue fell 21% — which Spotify blamed on the coronavirus pandemic — but the drop wasn’t quite as bad as forecast.

Universal, AMC Theatres Forge Historic Deal Allowing Theatrical Releases to Debut on Premium VOD Early

Instagram’s TikTok Competitor, Reels, Looking To Poach Creators With Six-Figure Payments

It’s unclear which creators have been approached, and whether any subsequent deals would necessitate that creators post exclusively on Reels or not. But interestingly, TikTok just announced a massive $200 million Creator Fund of its own that will look to dole out payments to native creators — though details are still scant on how those funds will be distributed.

Not exactly. What will happen is that possibly anyone who knows the resources, structures, models, and patterns that appear in the best narrative works will be able to write a masterpiece. You just have to learn what the protocols of literary fiction are and how they are handled. Then it will be your turn to practice applying them to your own works. But AI is ahead on this race, so far.

CES 2021 in Las Vegas Canceled Over COVID-19, Moves to Online Format

What normally happens in Vegas each year in January won’t be in Vegas after all. CES 2021, scheduled to run Jan. 6-9, 2021, will not be held in Las Vegas, the Consumer Technology Association announced. It’s the latest event canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, which has had a resurgence in the U.S. the past two months.

Tencent Music pays indie artists over $84m via ‘Incentive Project’

Tencent Music Entertainment has revealed that 590 million yuan (over $84m) has been paid out to indie artists using its ‘Tencent Musician Program’. Launched three years ago, Tencent Musician is an online service for emerging independent artists to upload their music to TME platforms.
