Warner Music Group Partners With Streaming Video Platform Vadio

Warner Music Group and b2b music video platform Vadio announced a content agreement on Wednesday that will give Vadio’s partners easy access to WMG’s trove of artist videos. This marks the first major label partner for the Portland, Ore.-based company, whose network of partners spans 80-plus streaming video channels, including Radio.com, Vizio and MetroLyrics.

Vadio’s curation platform, ChannelMaker, allows its clients to curate music video channels from a library of videos. Ron Wilcox, WMG’s executive counsel of business affairs, strategic and digital initiatives, said in a statement that “Vadio’s extensive distribution network of video channels expands the potential for Warner Music artists to connect with new fans, while creating new revenue streams on our artists’ behalf.”

This deal will change everything for the music business in Russia

In recent months Russia’s once sin-binned social network, vKontakte, has inked licensing deals with Warner Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment, in part to power a new mobile subscription streaming app.

Today, bringing to a close a two-year lawsuit against VK, Universal has announced that it’s done the same. The major has reached a settlement with VK parent Mail.ru and licensed its social media platforms – VK, Odnoklassniki and My World – for future use of video and audio content from UMG artists like Taylor Swift.

WMG buys X5 Music as major labels double down on playlists

Yesterday’s news that Warner Music Group has bought X5 Music – with reports in Sweden suggesting the price may have been $25m – is the latest sign of major labels doubling down in their efforts to do more with playlists and streaming curation.

WMG, remember, already bought British startup Playlists.net in October 2014, and has adopted its Topsify brand as the imprint for the label group’s own playlists on Spotify.
