Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl said his company remains happy with their deal with TikTok and he believes the social media platform and Universal Music Group will also come to an agreement. “Our deal was very difficult too, but we got there and, for us, it was fair, but it was a year ago. It was also a different time. So I don’t know what is driving Universal’s positions, but if there’s any way we can help them, we will, and I’m confident they’ll sort it out,” he continued.

Luminate, the entertainment industry data company responsible for powering the Billboard Charts, has acquired Quansic, a global music artist identification service. France-headquartered Quansic claims to operate the world’s largest artist identification database which includes over 2.5 million ISNIs (artist identifiers) and 200 million asset identifiers.
According to an update issued on Thursday (February 8), the deal has now received the necessary shareholder and regulatory approvals required for closing. As reported in November, as part of the transaction, BMI’s former shareholders will be allocating $100 million of the proceeds of the sale to the PRO’s songwriter, composer and publisher “affiliates” in “recognition of [their] creativity”.
