The video sharing app TikTok arrived in the U.S. only two years ago, but has already become one of the most popular social platforms in the country. According to figures shared by the company this week, more than 100 million Americans use TikTok every month—nearly a third of the population.

Twitch viewership dipped this month, unless you’re looking beyond games

Overall Twitch viewership shrank slightly in July, and streams of top games like League of Legends and Fortnite fell with it. But in other corners of Twitch, viewership is still growing: the platform’s “Just Chatting” category saw millions more hours watched, and there were increases in Twitch’s “Creative” and “Music & Performing Arts” categories, too.

A  big reason for WMG’s buyout of IMGN (and for its buyout of UPROXX two years ago) is about data watching, and better understanding the habits and predilections of teenage audiences. According to IMGN’s website, the firm’s channels currently share over 40 million subscribers / followers, and are viewed more than 3 billion times every month.

RIAA Says SoundExchange Is Authoritative Source for ISRC Data in the U.S.

SoundExchange has been designated by the Recording Industry Association of America as the authoritative source for International Standard Recording Code (ISRC) data in the United States.  Since 2016, SoundExchange has operated an online tool for looking up ISRCs — the global standard for identifying sound recordings, and the RIAA cited the firm’s work for endorsing it as the industry standard.

YouTube Rolls Out Expanded Artist Analytics Hub

YouTube is rolling out a new analytics hub for creators on its platform today (July 7), which will provide expanded real-time statistics for videos and allow artists the ability to see details on a song’s combined performance across all the videos in which it appears on the platform. The new hub, called Analytics For Artists, will be incorporated into YouTube Studio and be available for all official artist channel.

EU media companies target Google’s data dominance

Publishers had expected to use data privacy measures going into effect Aug. 15 to bar Google from storing insights about readers, sapping the data advantage that has enabled it to dominate a market filled with advertisers hungry for information to target potential customers. But Google said it will cut off publishers from a lucrative flow of ads if they follow through with curbing its data collection.

Music Subscriber Market Shares Q1 2020

Spotify remains the standout leader in terms of subscribers with 32% market share. Spotify’s market share has remained between 32% and 34% every quarter since 2015. This is some achievement given how much more competitive the market has become in that time, and the stellar growth of Amazon. Spotify’s growth is both an extension of the wider market and a driver of it.
