NMPA CEO: The Music Modernization Act Marks a New Era for the Music Industry 

The next step after the President’s signature is the promulgation of regulations — essentially the federal government will determine the parameters around the many concepts in the MMA and how they will play out. The groups involved in getting the MMA signed into law will be laser focused on ensuring that the rules put in place are fair and transparent.

Music Modernization Act Awaits Only President’s Signature To Become Law

The Music Modernization Act is not the law of the land yet, but it’s pretty damn close, as the House of Representatives today (Sept. 25) unanimously approved passage of the U.S. Senate’s version of the bill, which had itself been approved by that chamber last week. Now, the MMA is off to the White House where it will await the signature of President Donald Trump before becoming the law of the land.

In order to get their algorithm to produce a legitimately classical-looking portrait, Obvious’s members say they fed it a training data set of more than 15,000 portraits created between the 14th and 20th centuries. Using these images, the algorithm was able to “generate” new images similar to the ones it had been fed.

Google, Yandex Discuss Creation of Anti-Piracy Database 

Google, Yandex and other prominent Internet companies in Russia are discussing the creation of a database of infringing content including movies, TV shows, games, and software. The idea is that the companies will automatically query this database every five minutes with a view to removing such content from search results within six hours, no court order required.

SiriusXM’s Purchase of Pandora Could Change the Balance of Power in the Music Industry

Tuesday evening, the music business scored a political victory that some executives couldn’t chew on until after Yom Kippur ended: The Senate passed the Music Modernization Act. The legislation — which now needs to pass the House of Representatives in its amended form before going to the president — is the most significant copyright reform in a generation.
