PR: W3C Publishes Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) as a W3C Recommendation

The viewing experience of watching movies and TV shows on the Web has now moved from a cumbersome and possibly insecure arrangement to the security of the Open Web Platform. The integration of the EME API into the Open Web enables Web browsers to communicate with the software that allows playback of protected content.

Hollywood’s Use of “Stolen” Computer Technology Tests Ownership Theories 

The software at issue is protected by copyright, but what makes Rearden’s claim in this regard one to watch is how Rearden is telling a court that the author of the software gets to control output files. The studios, which have now ganged up to fight the lawsuit, object to this theory of ownership.
