RIAA Targets ‘AI Hub’ Discord Users Over Copyright Infringement 

AI Hub’ is a rapidly growing Discord server where users share guides and AI models, including voice models of major musicians. The RIAA suggests that the server is dedicated to copyright infringement and wants it shut down. Through a DMCA subpoena, the anti-piracy group further asks Discord to disclose the identities of several users.

Marvel Draws Heat Over Use of AI to Create ‘Secret Invasion’ Opening Credits

The decision to have AI play a role in the creation of the “Secret Invasion” opening credits has upset many viewers on social media, as using AI presumably took jobs away from human animators and graphic designers. Marvel Studios’ parent company, Disney, has increasingly been using AI on projects, most notably in the de-aging of Harrison Ford in the upcoming “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”

OpenAI Lobbied Europe to Water Down A.I. Regulations

A new report from Time suggests that despite CEO Sam Altman’s public calls for AI regulation, his company wants to define said regulation. Time examined documents about OpenAI’s engagement with E.U. officials about the law. In several cases, the company proposed amendments that later made it into the final text of the E.U. law.

Microsoft is developing an AI rap generator, DeepRapper 

According to Microsoft, ‘Muzic’is a “project on AI music that empowers music understanding and generation with deep learning and artificial intelligence.” Of all the projects in the works at Muzic, this one might make a few music rightsholders spit out their coffee. In 2021, Muzic researchers developed an AI-powered ‘rap generator’ called DeepRapper.

AI music that contains ‘no human authorship’ won’t be eligible for a Grammy Award

The updated rules stipulated that a work that contains no human authorship is not eligible in any categories for the Awards. However, the Recording Academy noted that a work that features elements of AI material is eligible in applicable categories, although the human authorship component of the work submitted “must be meaningful.”

Bipartisan U.S. bill would end Section 230 immunity for generative AI

Two U.S. senators introduced legislation on Wednesday that would allow social media companies to be sued for spreading harmful material created with artificial intelligence. The law would open the door for lawsuits to proceed against social media companies for claims based on emerging generative AI technology, including fabricated but strikingly realistic “deepfake” photos and videos of real people.
